Blue Ridge Roller Derby Fall Brawl
OK, I admit it. I finally made it to a Blue Ridge Roller Derby Girls brawl. Or is it a bout? (I need to learn the correct terminology.) And I have to admit it was great! I loved it. These girls are tough. And I mean it. They took tumbles on the cement floor they were skating on, and every single time they were up and running, or rather skating, immediately. I could hardly keep up with them. And I was just watching!
They were playing the Atlanta Roller Girls, and that was a great team as well. Everyone on their skates really gave their all. But from the start, our Blue Ridge girls were ahead. They won hands down. It was a great game and I really enjoyed the athleticism of everyone that played, including the referee's.
Everyone I talked to said that the Blue Ridge Roller Derby Girls were the best team out there and rarely lost. This year they had only one loss. I can't wait for the next game, which is November 6. They will be hosting the Molly Rogers Roller Girls from Melbourne, Florida. Count me in! That will be the last game for their home season. There will be one more play-off in Johnson City Tennessee, with the Little City Roller Girls. Hmmmmm, can you say road trip?
The Madison Derby Divas has recently started up. For girls ages 12 to 17, learn to be a roller Derby Star! If you know a young girl interested in Roller Derby check out their website. Several of the Blue Ridge Roller Girls are working with the girls and coaching them.
