Asheville NC Art in the Airport
I had the pleasure of dropping someone off at the Asheville Airport yesterday, and I say it was a pleasure because I love to go there. It is a beautiful building, and the Airport Authority has made a commitment to displaying local artists on the walls.
I love looking at the artwork of the people in this area. And the shows there are always nice. But to my surprise they have now created a mini Museum.
This month there are a group of seven artists from the area displaying in a new section. It is a great place to display for the artists, with so many people coming through daily. This group will be on display until October 12, 2010. Read more about this show.
This is a great showplace. They have made a nice area in which to walk off the big line to Baggage, and enter into a quiet world briefly before picking up your luggage. The Asheville Airport is being remodeled and they are incorporating a lot of nice features. I am excited to come back and see what it will be like when it is completed.
Currently they are reconstructing the security area and it promises to be a much easier walk through in the future.
The Airport is located in Fletcher, right between the Asheville and Hendersonville areas. Just off Interstate 26 and on Highway 280.
Also on display in the terminal, was a children's art display. That was a nice show as well, and I really enjoyed the kids work and sense of reality.
So if you are lucky enough to fly into the Asheville NC Airport any time in the future, be on the look out for the art displays. I can't wait to return on Thursday to pick up a friend that flew out and see if I missed anything.
